In April, The Friends of Aztalan received a $1,900 grant from The David and Joyce Weizenicker Fund for State Parks of the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin. The primary purpose is to support projects that facilitate accessibility for senior citizens. With this grant the Friends will:
Create more accessible access to the the signage by the picnic area at the lower parking lot by providing a crushed gravel pathway from the parking lot to the interpretive signs. The surface will made of wheel chair friendly crushed gravel surface topping—no ground disturbance needed.
Refresh parking lot stall paintings, including refreshing of handicap stall.
Also in April, the Friends of Aztalan received a $750 Incentive Grant from the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks. With this grant the Friends will print 1,000 Walking Tour Guides, which will be available for free at the entrance kiosk and the trailer.

Funding from the National Park Service (NPS) for an electric kiosk station that will use credit cards and dispense park stickers. This technology has been piloted at Devils Lake State Park successfully.Also, an electric gate will be installed close to the current location. The current hours of the park are from 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. As a safety feature, the gate will open if a vehicle is in the park after closing time.
